The serial number is stamped on the blade, and the same serial number is stamped on the scabbard, so it can be used as a criterion to determine if the sword is original or not.

Serial number stamped on the scabbard　

This is a Japanese Imperial Army Type 95 military sword that I purchased at an auction 15 years ago. Since many Japanese military swords were transferred to the U.S. after the war, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find the originals.

However, in 1935, the ancient Japanese mentality was reevaluated to reflect the times, and the Japanese sword was reevaluated as a symbol of this. In 1935, however, the Japanese sword was reexamined and its exterior was made to resemble a traditional Japanese sword, and it was used as the source of the Japanese spirit in the military until World War II. In other countries, weapons were just tools, but in Japan, Japanese swords had a special place in the history of Japan.

This sword was issued to the junior officers of the army in 1935, so it had to be practical and suitable for mass production. As the war situation worsened, the sword was simplified and the hilt was changed from copper to aluminum and the scabbard was changed to wood.

This is a factory-made sword and the manufacturing process is different from the original Japanese sword.

Blood drainage is engraved on both sides of the blade.

This is the special equipment for military swords. This is the stopper, and the scabbard cannot be removed unless this is pushed in.

A cherry blossom crest is added.

The handle is made of all metal, this is made of aluminum, but it is very finely modeled after a Japanese sword, the hilt strap and the pattern of the shark skin are also reproduced, giving a glimpse of the thought that goes into a Japanese sword.

The engraving of the cherry blossom relief work and the shark skin patterns are carefully raised, making it a magnificent work of art.

日本帝国陸軍の95式　軍刀です、これは15年前にオークションで購入したものです、当時は安かったのですが今はかなりの値段で取引されています、ただアジア製の偽物が多くなり購入には注意が必要です、今では実物はほとんど見なくなりました、日本軍の軍刀も戦後多くがアメリカに渡ったので当時のオリジナルは探すのは困難になりつつあります、日本では銃刀法もありますので柄、鞘は実物でも刀身がオリジナルのものはほとんどないと思います。

軍刀の歴史から説明しますが明治維新を経た日本は軍備の西洋化を推し進めます、日本刀は既に廃刀令が出ていたこともあり当時の軍隊の軍刀は西洋のサーベルへと変換されます、しかしその後１９３５年に当時の時勢を色濃く反映して日本古来の精神論が見直されます、その象徴として日本刀が再び見直され日本古来の太刀を模した外装が採用されます、その後は日本刀は軍隊の日本人精神の源として第2次大戦まで使われるわけです、戦時中は日本刀を持っての突撃切り込み、特攻隊員への支給など精神的な面での象徴となります、これも他国では見れない日本独特の精神論に基ずく武器の使用方法です、他国では武器は道具でしたが日本では日本刀に日本独自の暦史的な特別な感情を抱いていたわけです。

95式軍刀は陸軍の下士官に支給された軍刀です、１９３５年に制定されます、この軍刀は下士官に支給される為より実用的で量産に適する形が求められます、柄は全金属製で鞘も金属です、鞘はつや消し塗装のオリーブグリーンに塗られ軍隊の武器という感じが色濃いです、何より頑丈さが戦地で求められた為全金属製となっています、刀身も改良が重ねられ実物の日本刀より折れにくく粘りもある実用刀となっています、その後戦局の悪化とともに簡略化が行われ柄は銅製だったものがアルミ製になり末期には鞘とともに木製に変更されます。

刀身には血抜きが左右に刻まれます

工場刀ですので本来の日本刀とは製造過程も異なります、その為刀紋はありません、

桜の浮き細工の刻印、鮫皮の模様が丁寧に浮き上がっています、ここまでやると立派な芸術品です

製造番号が刀身に刻印されます、同じ製造番号が鞘にも刻印されている為オリジナルかどうかの判断基準になります
